LIS1 Information
Important information for those who have been offered an LIS1 position
You do not need to request prioritization of your application or submit proof of your LIS1 offer. You must apply for authorisation (do not select the LIS1 license option). The Norwegian Directorate of Health has an overview of everyone who has been offered a position. Applications are processed continuously and in time for the start dates of 1 March and 1 September.
If you have been offered a leftover position, you apply in the ordinary manner. Before the start dates of 1 March and 1 September, the Norwegian Directorate of Health will prioritise applications from those who have been offered an LIS1 position.
Do not apply for a student license while awaiting the processing of your authorisation application. Only individuals who are still in education (you may apply for a student license no earlier than after completing the ninth semester) are eligible for a student license. For more information about the student license: Apply for a student license (stud.med) – educated in the EU/EEA – Norwegian Directorate of Health.
Processing time is 3 months
For applicants who have been offered an LIS1 position, applications will be processed continuously and in time for the start dates of 1 March and 1 September.
Processing time will be extended if the application is missing required documentation.
We are aware that many begin an informal introductory period at the hospital a few weeks before the formal LIS1 service begins. This introductory period is not considered part of the LIS1 program, and therefore authorisation is not required during this time.
