This is an overview over the Norwegian government’s efforts to prevent the harmful effects of tobacco during the period of 1964–1993. Many activities were planned and carried through, information activities, legislation, restriction, cessation, prevention, research etc. This outline is limited to the public authorities’ tobacco-control initiatives. Both individuals and voluntary organizations also carried out extensive efforts in the field.
The report was prepared by Kjell Bjartveit in connection with the 30th anniversary of the National Council on Tobacco and Health (Statens tobakksskaderåd).
